Well-woman care
When you are feeling fine, making an appointment with a gynecologist might not be high on your priority list, but regular gynecologic care is a key to your continued good health! An annual gynecologic exam does not take long, is covered by most insurance plans and can help your doctor detect minor gynecologic concerns before they become bigger problems. It also helps you develop a relationship with your physician, which is helpful should a problem arise in the future.
Most annual exams include a breast exam and a Pap test. A breast exam is done to detect any changes or abnormalities in breast tissue. This can detect breast cancer before it has a chance to grow or spread. A Pap test, also called a Pap smear, involves taking cells from the cervix and examining them for abnormal growth. Our office administers Pap tests and will follow up with you if further testing or treatment is needed.
An annual exam is a good time to ask questions about your body; we are here to help if you have unusual or painful period symptoms, or any other gynecologic concerns.
An annual exam is also an excellent time to ask about contraception. At Novant Health Carolina Women's Health Associates, we believe you should be in charge of your reproductive health. We are here to answer questions about STDs, and test for and treat those if necessary. We also aim to educate you on birth control options and help you to choose the option that's right for you. Here are some of the options we offer:
- Nuva Ring
- Intrauterine device (IUD)
- Nexplanon
- Depo Provera
- Diaphragm
- OrthoEvra patch
- Oral birth control pills
- Permanent birth control (tubal ligation)
If you wish to start a family but are having difficulty, the providers in our office can help. We offer basic fertility assistance and advice, and we are always happy to answer your questions.
Please call our office if you would like to schedule an annual gynecologic exam with a board-certified gynecologist in Salisbury or China Grove.
Mammograms
If your provider recommends a mammogram, we will work with you to schedule that service at Novant Health Imaging Julian Road. A department of Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, this facility offers 3D Mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis. This advanced technology produces a 3D image of the breast, which makes better cancer screening and diagnosis possible as compared to traditional mammography.
